CODE OF CONDUCT

The Code of Conduct formalises the way Islington Sports Ltd (Islington Netball) deals with any problems with player behaviour.

By registering with Islington Netball (or previously The All Nations Islington), a player accepts responsibility for complying with the Code of Conduct detailed below and agrees to the consequences of any breach of this code. The Code of Conduct refers to the behaviour of a person, persons and/or team involved in any way with this netball league.

The Code

  • Act respectfully towards officials. Never argue with, backchat or direct abusive language towards an official. If you disagree with an official, have your captain approach the official during a break or after the game in an appropriate manner.

  • Control your temper. The following is not acceptable or permitted in league:

               - Verbal and physical abuse of umpires, Islington Netball representatives or other players;

               - deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent;

               - rough, dangerous or violent play

  • Play fairly and within the rules at all times;

  • Respect the facilities and equipment provided;

  • Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of another player;

  • Co-operate with your umpire, teammates and opponents. Without them there would be no competition;

  • Play for the ‘fun of it’ and not just to win. We are a social league.

If a player breaks any aspect of the Code of Conduct, it should be brought to the attention of the Islington Netball manager, or in their absence, an umpire who will commence the breach of conduct process.

The Code of Conduct process involves 2 or 3 steps, depending on the gravity of the breaches. Usually the first transgression will result in a warning, the second receiving a suspension with length decided by management, and the third receiving immediate termination of registration. However in the case of serious breaches, management reserves the right to suspend the offending player immediately, with the second offence resulting in immediate termination. No refunds are available upon suspension or termination of registration. Details below:

Phase 1

Islington Netball management will discuss the first breach of the Code of Conduct with the player and give them a warning. They will be referred to the Code of Conduct - which they will have already seen prior to the current season, via their team captain on an email.

Phase 2

Islington Netball management will suspend the player from a certain number of games after a 2nd breach of the code of conduct in a current season, or after the 1st breach if it is of sufficient gravity (such as, but not limited to, a physical assault). No monetary refund will be provided to any player or team suspended.

Phase 3

Islington Netball management will terminate the player's registration in the league with immediate effect after a 3rd breach of the Code of Conduct. The player will be informed in writing and no monetary refund will be provided. The player can apply to Islington Netball management for registration renewal after 12 months. The renewal will be at the discretion of Islington Netball management.

Confidentiality

The league management is responsible for implementing this behaviour management policy and will keep confidential the names and details related to breaches of the codes of behaviour and ethics unless disclosure is necessary as part of the disciplinary or corrective process.
